Here at Dahlia we create boubounieres that follow the tradition of including an odd number of koufeta wrapped within the favor. All our boubounieres are made to order. Contact our shop for availability on the ones shown on the website and or if you are needing a custom design. We normally include five jordan almonds with each boubouniera. Available, tulle wrapped koufeta that you can attach to your own personal boubounieres.
The Tradition and Symbolism of the 'Koufeta'
Sugar-coated almonds, 'koufeta' in Greek, are passed out to the guests at the reception in a bowl or in the form of a bomboniera or party favor. Handing out koufeta is symbolic of an ancient tradition. The hard bitterness of the almond represents the endurance of marriage and the sugar coating symbolizes the sweetness of future life. The odd number of almonds is indivisible, just as the newlyweds will remain undivided.
